Visit the fairytale castles of King Ludwig
Transfer is 9.30am to a Bavarian farm located between Lake Starnberg and Lake Ammersee. Departing from the farm at 10am, driving to the Ammer Valley, lunch is at a Post Inn at Eberfing. After lunch, we drive through open farmland and endless forests. Overnight stay with dinner is at Hotel “Metzgerwirt” at Bayersoien or the Parkhotel in Bayersoien.
Departing at 9.30am we follow the old Roman Road, the "Via Claudia Augusta“, reaching the so-called "King’s Road“, where King Ludwig II. used to hasten from one castle to the other, arriving at the Wies church, lunch is at the former residence of the church builder. We continue through mountain forests, across pastures with grazing cattle and horses to the lakes Forggensee and Bannwaldsee, both the royal castles always in view. Overnight stay and dinner is at the Hotel"Müller" Hohenschwangau
In the morning there is an opportunity to visit the castle of Neuschwanstein or Hohenschwangau or the new museum of the Bavarian Royalties. We start our route to Hohenschwangau around noon. this leads through open farmland and along the river Lech. Lunch is in a small country inn near Prem (Gasthof „Lechaue“) or, weather permitting, a picnic at the bank of the river. Continuing we arrive at the farmers’ town Urspring, here we have dinner and spend the night. at the hotel “Drei Mohren”.
Late morning the carriages drive through moorlands and along dairyland, then through the Dosswald Forest near the town of Schongau. In this medieval town we stay the night near the market place in a cosy small hotel "Roessle". Plenty of time to walk around this little market town, where less than 200 years ago the last witch has been burned.
We leave Schongau driving through dense forest and fens. finally arriving at the former monastery of Wessobrunn. We stop for lunch in front of a former Post relay station. Close to this is a stone with the oldest written document in the German language, dating back to the year 814 A.C. We leave Wessobrunn for the very last stage of our journey. crossing the Ammer River valley climbing up a steep road back into the forests around Kerschlach, the home of Coaching in Bavaria.
